Neighborhood America Helps NJ TRANSIT Improve Regional Mobility by Enhancing Public Outreach

Public Comment Service has been chosen to support the planned transit enhancements between New Jersey and New York. The comprehensive initiative, known as Access to the Region's Core (ARC), involves the collaboration of stakeholders in both states in the planning decisions, which will ultimately affect millions of people who travel the route daily.

Transit Link Consultants, a Joint Venture of  SYSTRA Consulting, Inc. and Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade & Douglas, Inc. selected Neighborhood America's solution to provide citizens with the opportunity to participate in the planning process. The solution will enable decision-makers to effectively collect and analyze the public's views throughout the project, and the resulting feedback will be incorporated into the final recommendations.

"We rely on traditional methods to keep the public involved and informed throughout our planning projects, such as public hearings, committees, open houses and workshops," stated Melissa Budsock, ARC's Outreach Coordinator. "But Neighborhood America's eye-catching ads helped us to learn about the value that their solution brought to our public outreach efforts. Public Comment Service will complement our existing outreach strategies by making it easier for us to expand our outreach and obtain the information we need - conveniently through the Web."

The GIS mapping software integrated with our innovative service will also add value by enabling the project teams to locate comments are coming from; compare the results; identify the needs of commuters coming from many different locations; and ultimately design a plan that truly deals with people's concerns.

The T and URS Select the IBM - Neighborhood America Public Comment® Service to Enhance a Texas Transit Project

In Tarrant County, one of the fastest growing counties of its size in the United States, major plans are under way to enhance mobility that will work to relieve traffic congestion and improve the air quality throughout the region. Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) and consultant, URS Corporation have entered into the first phase of the development process, and have enlisted Neighborhood America's innovative solution to enhance the project's public involvement plan.

Public Comment Service will enable decision-makers to conduct a more thorough analysis of transit options through the collection of public comment over a widespread area.

"Extensive citizen views are essential to the success of this project," commented Tim Baldwin, project manager for URS Corporation. "So we are offering the public several opportunities to participate, including public meetings, forums, and focus group roundtable discussions. While not everyone will be able to attend these events, Public Comment Service will expand the opportunity to be involved, maximizing our outreach efforts."

Neighborhood America's solution will also enable project teams to meet very strict deadlines by enabling the efficient outreach to a very large and highly diverse audience. They will be able to collect, analyze and report on comments in a short amount of time, adhering to a very aggressive schedule.

Local Children Featured in Neighborhood America's Most Recent National Ad Campaign

Twelve children of Neighborhood America's employees are featured in the company's new "listening" ad campaign. The new campaign highlights Neighborhood America's distinct ability to enable organizations to really "listen" to their citizens through the collection of structured feedback.

"Our strategic lines of business all share the universal need for structured interaction, so it seemed like a natural fit to bridge this need with the universal ability to form an emotional connection with children," commented Kristi Grigsby, Neighborhood America's Director of Marketing.

Inviting the children to participate in the new ad campaign was a rewarding experience for all of the families involved. Children can often feel very removed from their parents' work life, and this project helped to bridge that gap. Danielle Fontella, age 4, agreed. "It was fun being a model and being able to help my daddy with his job."

Neighborhood America Among 300 Worldwide Leaders Attending Global Media Forum in London

In May, Neighborhood America joined a select group of international leaders at the We Media Global Forum in London. The event, conducted at and hosted by The BBC and Reuters, brought together over 300 of the world's thought leaders in media to share collective knowledge, and spawn new ideas, information, services and businesses. The two day forum concluded with a reception hosted by Neighborhood America and Reuters.

"The Forum heightened awareness that while technology may be helping to create a new world of media, the needs of ‘old media’ remain intact," stated David Bankston, Neighborhood America's Executive Vice President and CTO. "Our solutions bridge these two worlds together by enabling organizations to seize the power of the Web to build strong communities, while maintaining the control and structure necessary to ensure integrity, efficiency and bottom-line results."

Neighborhood America Demonstrates Thought Leadership at the 2006 American Planning Association National Conference

In April,  Neighborhood America led a panel discussion called "Harnessing the Power of the Internet to Improve Public Participation" at the APA National Conference in San Antonio, Texas. Joining Neighborhood America were leaders from URS Corporation and CirclePoint. The discussion attracted urban, rural, and regional planners from all over the country, and focused on the ways in which Web-based systems can enhance public outreach initiatives.

Tim Baldwin, URS Senior Associate, supported the discussion by highlighting a case study where Neighborhood America's solution enhanced citizen participation for a major planning project in Denton County, Texas.

"I was happy to talk about URS' experience in using Web-based management for our projects and was able to focus on the things we've learned so far in working with Neighborhood America's services," commented Mr. Baldwin. "The audience enjoyed learning about our experience using the solution, and we were also able to discuss how to improve and enhance these types of services in the future."
