November 20, 2003 - Neighborhood America's Public Communications System™ continues to reach
national stature with its support of the process for selection of an appropriate
memorial for the World Trade Center. The final 8 designs were disclosed to the
public on November 19, 2003.
The Municipal Art Society, NY1 and the New York Daily News immediately
initiated a national public involvement outreach to provide public transparency
for the selection process. The Imagine NY system is the only major system
collecting and organizing complete feedback since the Lower Manhattan
Development Corporation (LMDC) has elected not to accept public comment
on the memorial designs.
The Municipal Art Society and the Civic Alliance to Rebuild Downtown New York
opted not to conduct a formal public comment period. Instead, only 3 days
were allotted for public meetings. The Public Communications System™,
however, is consistently available and accessible for the submission of public
comment.
The system has provided online collection capability, support of offline hearing
processes and electronic support for the number 1 cable network in New York as
well as the newspaper having the largest daily circulation in New York City.
The Municipal Art Society originally deployed The Public Communications
System™ in July of 2002 to facilitate public outreach and manage the more than
19,000 ideas and visions submitted by individuals from around the world.
